NORD DDB PRESENTATION

Prologue
SMALL TEAMS, TECH, AND THE ADAPTATION TO UNIQE REQUIREMENTS OF EACH PROJECT.
Founder: Mattias Andersson
Founder: Henning Sandström
Hi there Client & Project managers, AD’s, Copys and Creative Directors!
We've assembled a concise presentation for the team at DDB, outlining our philosophy, the problems we address, and providing some examples.
We hail from the North of Sweden and have been collaborating in various roles since 2011. Since then, we've traveled around the world both literally and metaphorically, engaging in various productions. We've embraced new technology and continuously sought to expand our skill set. S/ND represents the lessons we've learned and the experience we share. And if shortened to a quote, it would be:
”Small teams, tech and the recognition and adaptation to the unique requirements of each project. “

S1 - A Breif Overview
Motivation:
A film is a raity, we consider each film a distinctive gem—an opportunity to participate in something truly remarkable.
Approach:
We challenge the conventional filmmaking process by using
smaller teams, innovative technology
and adapting to the unique requirements of each project.
Output:
We create films and still images, grounded in the belief that compelling stories are best conveyed through exceptional visuals.

S2 - Us vs Market
TRADITIONAL PRODUCTIONS
Dependent on big budgets and large crews, the production process often requires each team member to act like a unique piece of a puzzle, each with a specialized skill. When they succeed you hit the grand slam.
Essentially, the role of the producer is to manage the budget, outsource the work to competent people and hope that they collaborate and communicate with each other.
Due to its scalability, this approach often serves as a solid business model. However, the challenge with modern productions is that budgets are frequently too tight for this model to operate efficiently.
S/ND TEAMS
Agile and flexible, this approach relies on a small core team where creativity and solutions are found within limitations.
Each member possesses a broad understanding of filmmaking and its fundamentals. This model fades the borders between traditional roles, leading to a more comprehensive understanding of the project by every team member. This, in turn, opens the possibility for a deeper commitment (heart) in each project.

SWEDISH ARMED FORCES -
LEAN PRODUCTION TEAM AND ANIMATED PREVIS
When it comes to shooting, the clock is always ticking.
Faced with people unable to work overtime and a budget that only accounted for one day of shooting, we found ourselves in a real bind. Add to the mix a horse on set and a specific twist in the final plot, and you have a recipe for a challenging shoot. So, how did we overcome these obstacles?

S4 - Case
You can't predict, but you can prepare.
'Fix it in post' has been a standard industry phrase for years, implying 'we'll deal with it later.'
With the Enklare project, we had to do the opposit and 'fix it in pre' (previs.)
We knew that set construction would have a significant visual impact compared to the cheaper option of renting an office.
Thats why we first created both the story and set 3D.

SWEDISH ARMED FORCES -
CREATING EIGHT AUTHENTIC MINUTES.
To deliver four films, each lasting two minutes — amounting to a total of eight minutes — we required a substantial amount of content and time spent with our talents to generate authentic material. It was essential to streamline our team down to its core essence in order to squeeze additional shooting days from the budget.

S6 - SUSTAINABLE
SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT
”Is development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.” -From the Brundtland report World Commission on Environment and Development, commissioned by the United Nations, 1987.
We feel that neither film nor anything else must be produced at the expense of our planet and our life on it. Thats why we have created our own sustainability policy inspired by online course at the Cultural Training Programme for professionals in performing arts, music, audiovisual media, art and design.

S7 - In the end
SAND FILM is a “Less is more” production company.
While other often outsource most of the hands-on work, we strive to maintain control. This philosophy benefits us in two primary ways: firstly, it allows us to afford more time behind the camera, getting intimately involved with each project; secondly, it enables us to grasp the core essence of every single project more fully.
Our approach isn't solely defined by our small teams and minimizing outsourcing. Equally important to us is the recognition and adaptation to the unique requirements of each project. Some films may necessitate stringent previsualization and planning, while others thrive on spontaneity and flexibility on set. We view this as a flexibility-rigidity spectrum. Misjudging the balance between rigidity and flexibility can often lead to unsatisfactory outcomes.
We believe that our hands-on approach, embracing both rigidity and flexibility as dictated by the project's needs, helps us categorize and approach each project uniquely. Our blend of intimacy with the process, along with the discernment to apply the right methods, sets us apart in our pursuit of excellence in filmmaking.
