"You can't predict, but you can prepare." 'Fix it in post' has been an industry-standard phrase for years, implying 'we'll deal with it later.' However, with the Enklare project, we had to do the opposite and 'fix it in pre' (previsualization). We understood that set construction would have a significant visual impact compared to the less costly alternative of renting an office.
Initially, the budget did suggest that renting an office was a more appropriate choice, especially considering that we had to produce two 15-second clips and stills within a single 10-hour day. We couldnt afford overtime either. We knew we needed to be time efficient. In close cooperation with set designer Tobias Allansson, we concluded that if we excluded the ceiling and sidewalls from the set build, we could meet the budget demands. But could we deliver a story set in an office that didn't feel restricted while remaining visually compelling?
That's why we first created a mock-up 3D animatic to see which angles and movements would be feasible. After several iterations of 3D animatics, we finally created something that we felt didn't limit the viewer's perspective and was still creatively engaging and visually captivating.
